Toyota is updating the bZ4X for the 2026 model year, aiming to strengthen its position in the competitive electric SUV market. Despite lagging behind rivals like the Tesla Model Y, the bZ4X saw U.S. sales double last year. The latest refresh brings notable improvements in battery technology, performance, and interior features.
The updated lineup includes a new 57.7 kWh battery in the base front-wheel-drive model, delivering 165 hp (123 kW) and a WLTP range of 220 miles. Two higher-tier models feature a 73.1 kWh battery: a mid-range version with 221 hp (165 kW) and 284 miles of range, and a flagship all-wheel-drive model boasting 338 hp (252 kW), 258 miles of range, and a 0-62 mph time of 5.1 seconds.

Toyota has improved battery energy density, increased the number of cells, and upgraded the electric motors with silicon carbide semiconductors for better efficiency. Battery pre-conditioning now enables more effective fast charging in cold conditions.
High-end models receive a 22 kW AC charger (up from 11 kW), while peak DC charging remains at 150 kW, allowing a 10-80% charge in about 30 minutes. The bZ4X’s towing capacity has also doubled to 3,306 lbs (1,500 kg).
Exterior changes are minimal, with slight aerodynamic refinements. Inside, the cabin gets a streamlined look, featuring a redesigned digital instrument cluster and a new 14-inch touchscreen that integrates climate controls, replacing the previous model’s separate switches.
