The 2023 Jeep Renegade is a small SUV. Shop it against the Subaru Crosstrek and Mazda CX-30. 

It has a lot of personality, but the Renegade is decidedly expensive for what it is—especially now that the base trim level has been axed. We rate it at 4.7 out of 10. (Read more about how we rate cars.)

Aside from the deletion of last year’s entry-level Sport trim level, the Renegade sees a few minor trim-level updates for 2023. 

Boxy but full of styling character, the Renegade brims with retro-Jeep cues in a toaster oven-shaped package. There’s something cartoonish about its proportions, though the Renegade has a pseudo-rugged look in Trailhawk form that works well enough. 

It’s busy and fun inside, too, with some imaginative touches that help the Renegade stand out against anodyne rivals.
